In 1980, the American Bakeries Company instigated a promotional offer with Lesney Products whereby three yellow Talbot vans would be made available to American consumers who bought the Bakeries produce, i.e. bread, cakes and pastry. The American Bakeries Company originally took a large consignment of the standard 'Taystee', and also took a large shipment of non-labelled Talbot vans. Non-Lesney produced Merita labels, the name of a subsidiary of the American Bakeries Company, were applied to the U.S.A. Mr Bob Brennan was greatly involved with the 'American Bread Van Set' and undertook to dispatch the vans to collectors in the U.K. - price £13 inclusive sea-mail delivery.
